Garry Dexter Goynes Launches Mayoral Campaign at Glenmora Christmas Parade
GLENMORA, La. — Garry Dexter Goynes officially launched his campaign for mayor of Glenmora on December 12 during the town’s annual Glenmora Christmas Parade.
A retired pastor, builder, and Glenmora resident form more than 25 years, Goynes announced his candidacy with the campaign slogan “Good for Glenmora,” emphasizing faith-based practical leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a renewed commitment to the town’s future.
“I’m running to serve, not make noise,” Goynes said.
“I’ve spent my life walking with people through hardship, building things that last, and forming strong family and community ties.
“Glenmora deserves steady leadership that listens carefully, acts responsibly, and stands with its people.”
Goynes is widely known in Glenmora as a former senior pastor and current bishop of Glenmora United Pentecostal Church, as well as a highly skilled carpenter and contractor who has built and remodeled homes across the community, including the church’s sanctuary and family life center.
As the patriarch of four generations of his family, 10 of whom live in Glenmora, Goynes said his campaign is rooted in generational responsibility.
“My vision is simple: fix what’s broken, protect our families, and restore pride in our town,” Goynes said.
“To do these things, we must strengthen infrastructure, improve safety, manage our finances with care, and prepare Glenmora for growth.
“This town belongs to its people, and their voices will guide every decision I make.”
Goynes said his platform is built around three core pillars: faith, family, and future.
He pledged to preserve Glenmora’s faith-based culture, prioritize its families through revitalization and safety, and position the town for long-term stability through responsible budgeting and strategic use of grants and partnerships.
“As mayor, I will be transparent with every dollar, firm but fair in law enforcement, and relentless in pursuing improvements to our streets, drainage, water systems, and neighborhoods,” Goynes said.
“I promise accountability, respect for taxpayers, and a hands-on approach to rebuilding Glenmora the right way.
Goynes added that some improvements would take longer than Glenmora citizens will want, but that he would move the town’s government forward as fast as possible.
“So many initiatives will be wrapped in layers of red tape at other levels of government, but we will constantly be monitoring them and advocating for their quick completion,” Goynes said.
Goynes added he would prioritize capitalizing on the recent momentum of town beautification and revitalization, adding that economic development, housing renewal, and strong cooperation with churches, civic groups, and residents would be essential to do that.
“This is a moment to choose renewal over politics as usual,” Goynes said.
“I’m ready to serve with integrity, humility, and clarity, and to bring people together to build a better future for Glenmora.”
