About Me
Rev. Garry Dexter Goynes, primarily known as “Dexter,” “Bro. Dexter,” or “Bishop,” is a native of Flatwoods, La.
He is a 1974 Graduate of Gorum (La.) High School and Alexandria Trade School of Carpentry in 1978.
During his 47-year career, he served as a commercial and residential carpenter for several construction companies such as Skip Converse and through the local carpenters’ union.
Widely regarded as a highly skilled building contractor, he has owned and remodeled three homes in Glenmora, and he built the beautiful new sanctuary and family life center at Glenmora United Pentecostal Church at 1010 6th Avenue.
In 2003, he assumed pastorship of Glenmora United Pentecostal Church, where he served as senior pastor with his wife Debbie until her death in 2023. He now serves as bishop of the church, currently pastored by his son, Rev. Brandon Goynes.
In 2024, he married the former Shelia Jones, who served as Vice President at Chase Bank in Alexandria. She retired in 2025 after a 39-year career in banking across north and central Louisiana.
With the arrival of three great-grandchildren (one in 2022 and two in 2025), he’s now the patriarch of four generations of the Goynes family, 10 of which call Glenmora home.
Garry Dexter Goynes is running for mayor to help Glenmora’s citizens add a successful chapter to the town’s history, and he needs your vote and support to accomplish this mission!
